On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow there was held a memorial march in the Alley of the Righteous Among the Nations in Bryansk
Representatives of the Jewish community-charitable center “Hesed Tikva”, children of the war, volunteers and citizens lit candles in memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and, remembered by name those who rescued Jewish children from the Nazis by risking their own lives. The “Light a Candle” action was continued at the central cemetery of Bryansk near the monument to the Holocaust victims.
The volunteers laid the alley of the Righteous Among the Nations on the renovated promenade in May. There are young maples and tablets with names of rescued Jewish children. The names of those, who rescued Jewish children from the Nazis by risking their own lives, were mentioned forever. Today everyone was remembered.
The information about these people was collected bit by bit. The work of lots of specialists has taken more than one year.
During the war in the Bryansk region there were about a dozen ghettos. They contained more than 11 thousand Jews. The official statistics says that only 400 people were saved.
It is the duty of living people to remember this tragedy and to learn the lessons of history.
Today people lit the lamps at the monument to the Holocaust victims at the central cemetery of Bryansk.
According to Jewish tradition the are stones at the foot of the monument. There are 22 in all. There is written on the stones the name of the settlement and the number of innocent people tortured by the fascists. There a human life behind every number.
